The Pinot of Mugello vineyard of the ancient family of Lorenzo dei Medici
Podere Fortuna includes 6 hectares planted with vineyards. Mainly the vineyard is Pinot Nero, while a small part is from Chardonnay for the production of our white wine. Always attentive to nature and the ecosystem that surrounds us, our company in Scarperia and San Piero is currently moving to organic.
Podere Fortuna vineyards: Pinot Nero and Chardonnay
The road that runs through the vineyards divides the company into two parts:
on the right there is the Fortuni vineyard, one of the first planted on the farm that contributes to creating the Fortuni wine;
on the left there is the Coldaia vineyard, where there are younger vines which are therefore destined for our fresher and fruity Pinot Noir and for the production of rosé.
Finally, on the top of the hill there is the Chardonnay vineyard, from which our Greto alla Macchia is produced. Come and visit us if you want to discover all the secrets of the vineyards where the production of our famous Pinot begins!
At our Scarperia and San Piero business we use two farming systems: the traditional spurred cordon and the guyot. The exposure of our vineyards is south / southeast, and the soil is clayey and moderately calcareous. The harvest, strictly manual, is done early compared to other areas of Tuscany, and is carried out around the end of August / beginning of September. After a careful selection in the field, the grapes are checked on a sorting table to eliminate any not perfectly healthy bunches. We are waiting for you to guide you on a complete visit to our vineyard and to let you taste our Pinot!
